Fragrance-Free vs Fragranced Deodorant
A fragranced deodorant adds a scent. A fragrance-free deodorant does not. That sounds simple, but it affects how the product smells on your skin, how it mixes with your perfume and, for some people, how their skin reacts.
What fragranced deodorants do
Most mainstream deodorants include perfume so that you smell pleasant after applying. The scent can cover odour and linger on clothes. If you like that, a fragranced product may suit you.
What fragrance-free means
Fragrance-free means no fragrance or perfume ingredient is added. The product may still have a faint smell from its own ingredients. It does not promise that the product is gentle on every skin type.
Who may prefer fragrance-free
- People who wear their own perfume or cologne and do not want scents to clash.
- People who dislike strong or sweet scents.
- People whose skin reacts to some fragrance ingredients. Fragrance can be a trigger for some people, so a fragrance-free product is a reasonable thing to try.
- Shared offices, classrooms and gyms where strong scents are not welcome.
Still do a patch test
Any product can irritate some skin, fragrance-free or not. Test a small amount on your inner forearm for 24 hours first and stop use if you notice irritation.
